From the icy depths of space to the shores of Lemvig, Denmark, journey with me to Planetstien: Pluto. Here, at the far end of Denmark’s oldest and longest Planetsti, a simple marker signifies something extraordinary. Planetstien: Pluto represents the dwarf planet in a scale model of our solar system, one billion times smaller than reality. Imagine, each meter you walk here equals a million kilometers in the vastness of space. This unique path, the first of its kind in Denmark, stretches over 7 kilometers from the Sun, located near Lemvig Museum, all the way out to Pluto here on Gjellerodde. The Planetstien was conceived and created by astronomer Ole J. Knudsen and sculptor Claus Navntoft between 1984 and 1994. Funded by various businesses, foundations, and Lemvig Municipality itself, the Planetstien is owned by Lemvig Museum. Planetstien: Pluto isn’t represented by a bronze model like the other planets. Instead, three carved stones mark its location. These stones represent Pluto’s elliptical orbit, showing its closest and farthest distances from the Sun. Even though it’s a simple marker, standing here at Planetstien: Pluto, you get a real sense of the sheer scale of our solar system. And the incredible journey this Planetsti takes you on, from the warmth of our Sun to the frigid outskirts where Pluto resides.
