“A church without a bell tower?” you might ask, standing here before Église Bienheureux Frédéric Ozanam. It’s true. This church, originally a simple chapel built in 1826, invites quiet contemplation with its bright, Greek temple-like facade. Église Bienheureux Frédéric Ozanam obtained its current name in 2015, linked to the newer Maison du bienheureux Frédéric Ozanam built alongside. However, the history of this place of worship stretches back much further. In 1830, with the creation of the new commune of Batignolles-Monceau, the chapel became known as Sainte-Marie des Batignolles. The transformation into a church took place in 1851, thanks to the architect Molinos. Inside Église Bienheureux Frédéric Ozanam, you’ll find a sculpted altarpiece in the choir depicting the Assumption of the Virgin. Stained-glass windows illustrate the childhood of Christ. A large crucifix of Spanish origin adds to the church’s unique character. And music lovers, take note: the church houses a 1923 Mutin organ with three keyboards and 35 stops. In 2015, the parish expanded with the addition of the Maison du bienheureux Frédéric Ozanam, designed by architect Jean Bocabeille. This modern addition, situated in the new Clichy-Batignolles district near Parc Martin-Luther-King, complements the historic church, continuing its legacy of faith and community. Église Bienheureux Frédéric Ozanam offers a peaceful sanctuary amidst the bustling city.
