Here stands Højvangen Kirke. Did you know it is Skanderborg parish’s first newly built church in over 500 years? Inaugurated on the first Sunday of Advent 2024, Højvangen Kirke is more than just a building. It represents a new chapter for the community.
Designed by Henning Larsen Architects, Højvangen Kirke serves as a focal point in the Højvangen district. It embraces both tradition and contemporary needs. This church didn’t just appear overnight. It was the result of years of planning. There were citizen meetings and workshops ensuring the church met the community’s needs.
The building covers 1500 square meters. It is designed with flexibility in mind. The central space features a square church room. A baptismal font is at its heart. The architecture pays homage to Danish building traditions. Materials include brick, oak, and brass. These elements create harmony with the surrounding landscape.
Large windows offer views of nature. They invite the outside world into the church. Small niches line the colonnade. These offer quiet spaces for reflection. Højvangen Kirke welcomes everyone from Højvangen and Skanderborg. It complements the area’s historic churches such as Skanderup Kirke and Skanderborg Slotskirke.
Landscape planning was done by SCHUL. The surrounding landscape features paths and green spaces. These create a peaceful atmosphere. They invite community interaction.
Højvangen Kirke is more than bricks and mortar. It symbolizes community. It represents a blend of architectural elegance and openness. It is a place for spiritual and cultural activities. It serves all generations.
Before Højvangen Kirke was built, the Kirkecenter Højvangen served as a hub. It hosted regular services. There was also confirmation classes and baby psalm singing. A playgroup and an open café created fellowship. Lectures and cultural events enriched community life.
The location of Højvangen Kirke is Mallinggårdsvej 1 in Skanderborg. It stands 77 meters above sea level. This new church provides opportunities for new kinds of church activities. These activities differ from what the older churches offer.
Højvangen Kirke is more than just a place of worship. It’s a testament to community collaboration and architectural vision. It’s a space where tradition meets modernity. It offers a welcoming space for all.
