Here stands Loushanguan Road a street connecting worlds. It links a highly internationalized neighborhood with typical local residential blocks. Loushanguan Road is a low-capacity street. It lies in Changning district running south to north. The road passes through three neighborhoods: Hongqiao, Tianshan, and Zhoujiaqiao. It stretches approximately two kilometers.
The southern part of Loushanguan Road sits within the Gubei Commercial Zone. This zone was established in the 1980s. It was Shanghai’s first commerce zone open to foreign investments. This section is prime real estate. High-end office buildings and residential projects fill this area. They were built with the highest construction standards of the time.
Take a moment at the intersection of Loushanguan Road and Xianxia Road. Notice the architectural contrast. Buildings north of Xianxia Road are typical old flats from the 1980s or earlier. Some have been demolished. Others are marked for redevelopment. Taller buildings will replace them. These new structures will be malls or high-end apartments.
Keep moving north toward Maotai Road. A newly built tall complex will appear on your left. This fancy building houses office rentals. It also has a supermarket and many restaurants. These cater to a discerning market.
Pass Maotai Road and stop at the next intersection. The main street running east to west is Tianshan Road. This thoroughfare connects residential neighborhoods to Hongqiao International Airport. The metro station for Line 2, Loushanguan Road Station, is on the right.
Continuing north past Tianshan Road the northern part of Loushanguan Road leads to Changning Road. As you walk this section old flats dominate the streetscape. Abundant stores groceries restaurants and food markets support local life. You will also find Line 15 here at Loushanguan Road station.
Until recently passengers transferring between lines 15 and 2 at Loushanguan Road Station had to walk from station to station. The underground passage was still under construction. However the underground passage opened on December 31 2024. The walk now takes approximately nine minutes.
Loushanguan Road station lies between Weining Road station and Zhongshan Park station on Line 2. The station sits beneath the intersection of Loushanguan Road and Tianshan Road. It is located between Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and the Huangpu River.
