In 1950, a foundation was laid in Diósd, Hungary. This was the beginning of the “National Company for the Repair of Bearings”. This seemingly simple start would eventually evolve into the New MGM Zrt. that stands before you today. The New MGM Zrt. has a rich history, intertwined with the industrial development of Hungary. Let’s delve into its captivating story. In 1952, another piece of the puzzle was added. The “Rolling Bearing Factory” was founded in Debrecen. It focused on producing ball bearings under the brand name “GD”. That same year, the “National Company for the Repair of Bearings” in Diósd transformed. It became the “Diósd Bearing Factory” and specialized in tapered roller bearings, branded as DCS. These two entities operated independently until 1963. They then merged to form the “Hungarian Bearing Works”, known as MGM. The brand name became MGM Radax. The company underwent a significant reconstruction between 1973 and 1979. This modernization aimed to improve products, expand the product range, increase production capacity, and boost efficiency at both plants. In 1993, MGM transitioned into a state-owned share holding company. Privatization followed in 1996 when DAEWOO Corp. from Korea acquired the company. The brand name changed to DAEWOO MGM. A period of rationalization began in 2001, focusing on quality improvement and increased efficiency. Operations were concentrated at the Diósd plant, and the company’s management also moved there. Hanwha Machinery Co., Ltd. from Korea became the main shareholder in July 2003. In 2004, along with another change in shareholder structure, the company’s name and brand reverted to MGM Co.Ltd., complete with a new logo. A significant shift occurred in June 2007. The Diósd factory was sold, leading to another change in ownership. RULMENTI S.A. Barlad and Turkish shareholders took over. The company was renamed New MGM Co.Ltd., marking another chapter in its ongoing journey. Today, New MGM Zrt. continues its legacy. It stands as a testament to the evolution of industry in Hungary, a story of mergers, acquisitions, and constant adaptation.
