Can a church building whisper secrets of faith and resilience? Here at the Zion Apostolic Temple Church, the walls seem to do just that. The Zion Apostolic Temple Church, originally known as Temple of Holiness, began its journey in 1960 under Evangelist Thelma McDaniel. In 1965, the church found a new leader in District Elder Isaac Parker. He guided the congregation for six years until his passing in 1971. His wife, Evangelist Mary A. Parker, then stepped up, becoming the church’s third pastor. A devastating storm in 1974 destroyed their building, forcing the congregation to share space with another church. Undeterred, they moved to a small building on Harding Street in 1978. A significant moment in the church’s history came in 1981 with a name change: Temple of Holiness became Zion Apostolic Temple. Mary Parker appointed her son, Elder Leon Parker, as assistant pastor in 1983. He took the helm as pastor in 1985. The following years were a testament to the church’s resilience. They worshipped in various locations, from a larger facility on Dryden Street to a Pizza Hut building on Westmoreland Road, which they remodeled. Each move, each challenge, strengthened their faith. Finally, in 2002, the Zion Apostolic Temple Church found its current home on Blue Ridge. The church’s capacity now exceeds 500, a symbol of its growth and enduring spirit. Suffragan Bishop Leon E. Parker, son of the late District Elder Isaac Parker, now leads the congregation, carrying on the family legacy. His wife, Lady Charlotte M. Parker, serves alongside him. The church offers Sunday School, Sunday Worship, and Tuesday Bible Study, welcoming all who seek spiritual growth and community. The Zion Apostolic Temple Church stands as a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and the enduring spirit of its congregation.
