You’re standing right in front of it – Maine West High School. A gigantic building that was once a place where corn grew. It was built in 1959, and in that year, the school hosted its first students. The school is known for its record-breaking girls’ basketball team, which won 65 consecutive games in the late 1980s. Another quirky fact is that Ronald Reagan gave a speech in the auditorium with a couple of his favorite actors, Cesar Romero and Robert Conrad, in 1980. Maine West also has a lot of notable alumni, some of whom went on to become successful athletes, artists, and even television personalities. So yeah, it’s a spot where history was made and future stars were born. Maine West – a true landmark in Des Plaines, a northwestern suburb of Chicago.
