Founded in 1988 the Igreja do Recreio stands as a beacon of faith in Rio de Janeiro. It began humbly. Just 24 members gathered in a small then sparsely populated neighborhood. Most homes were holiday retreats. The Igreja do Recreio was the First Baptist Church of Recreio dos Bandeirantes.

Pastor Wander Ferreira Gomes took the helm in 1989. He guided the church through years of growth. The church expanded in size and social outreach. Its foundation was faith love and service. A remarkable achievement was acquiring land in 2008. Their current location on Rua Helena Manela 101 is the result of this dedication.

Today the Igreja do Recreio embraces a “figital” model. This means it’s both a physical and digital church. Members connect from across Brazil and beyond. They worship together participate in activities online. The Igreja do Recreio truly transcends geographical boundaries.

The church’s mission is clear. It’s to bring people to Jesus Christ. It aims to build up Christians. The ultimate goal is to worship God together. This commitment extends to serving Christ within the Recreio community and the wider world.

The Igreja do Recreio believes in the Triune God: Father Son and Holy Spirit. They believe in the transformative power of God’s word. The church actively strives to empower disciples. It aims to make a difference in the world.

Sunday services are held at 9 am 11 am and 7 pm. These are times of worship and celebration. Thursday services are currently on recess. They are expected to resume in March 2025. A Youth service for ages 12-25 takes place on Saturdays at 8 pm.

The Igreja do Recreio demonstrates growth and commitment. It shows the enduring power of faith in a bustling city. It’s a testament to perseverance and dedication. The church remains a significant part of the Recreio dos Bandeirantes community.
