How quickly did those two decades pass? Standing before you is the Oak Crest Baptist Church. You might be surprised to know it hasn’t been here as long as some other Dallas landmarks. Oak Crest Baptist Church was the dream of the First Baptist Church of Midlothian’s Mission’s Committee. They wanted to establish another Southern Baptist Church in their rapidly growing town. In 1985 they contacted Jerry Hall, a pastor in Oklahoma, to begin the mission. That very same year, the first service was held on the last Sunday of September. Over seventy people attended, with almost all becoming members that very day. Oak Crest Baptist Church thrived in those early years. The congregation first met in the high school cafeteria before moving to a space owned by the Midlothian Bible Church. It was during this time that Oak Crest Baptist Church became self-supporting. After two years, they moved to their current location. Jerry Hall remained the pastor for twenty years, retiring in 2005. Oak Crest Baptist Church continues to serve its community, a testament to the power of faith and community.
