Did you know that Nordvestkirken wasn’t always called Nordvestkirken? Standing before this beautiful building you see today you are actually standing in front of what was once Utterslev Kirke. In 1938 Utterslev Kirke was inaugurated at Utterslev Torv. The church was housed in buildings that had belonged to Utterslevgård. The farm had burned down in 1899. Only the main house remained. Architect H L?nborg-Jensen converted the old farm buildings into a church hall. This marked a significant moment. Utterslev-bydelen was separated from Brønshøj Kirkes parish.
The church expanded. Between 1958 and 1963 architects Poul Ernst Hoff and Bennet Windinge completed the church’s four-winged complex. This expansion was funded in part by a collection of used postage stamps. This earned the church the nickname “the postage stamp church”. The comedian Carl Schenstrøm known from the film “fyrtårnet” organized the collection.
Utterslev Kirke served its community for many years. In 2013 however it ceased to be a parish church. Today it lives on under the name Nordvestkirken. It is now a vibrant part of Luthersk Mission. Nordvestkirken welcomes people of all ages. It emphasizes faith and life. The focus is on the Bible and Jesus. Nordvestkirken is a community church. It holds regular Sunday services. These services include singing music testimonies and sermons. Nordvestkirken also has various activities. These include work with children junior teenagers and young adults.
