Traversoni’s story is fascinating. He studied at the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences. But he did not become a lawyer. At 23 he began teaching history. His prestige grew rapidly and he became a general inspector.

The dictatorship prohibited him from teaching in 1973. This forced him into obscurity. However Traversoni began writing for the Colorado weekly Opinar in 1980. He was elected as a convention member in the internal elections of 1982.

In the 1984 elections he joined the Senate list. He represented Batllismo as an alternate. Dr. Enrique Tarigo Vázquez was elected vice president. Traversoni assumed the seat. He held it throughout the 1985-1990 period.

Traversoni also represented Uruguay. He was a delegate to the United Nations General Assembly. He also attended UNESCO in 1995.

Alfredo Traversoni was an accomplished author. His works include “España y el reconocimiento de la independencia del Uruguay” in 1953. He also wrote “La Independencia y el Estado Oriental”. This was in the Enciclopedia Uruguaya in 1968. He published “La revolución francesa y el imperio” in 1972. “La Banda Oriental” written with María Cristina Kampf came out in 1976. “Historia del Uruguay siglo XX” co-authored with Diosma Piotti was released in 1993.

Escuela 292 Profesor Alfredo Traversoni continues his legacy. It shapes young minds in Nuevo París. The school operates under the Dirección General de Educación Inicial y Primaria. It is a public institution. The phone number is +598 2305 0606.
