How about a journey back to the early 20th century here at Santa Coloma? This Argentine town whispers tales of railways and dreams.

Santa Coloma is a small town in the Baradero district. It offers a unique glimpse into Argentina’s past. It’s a place where time seems to slow down.

Santa Coloma’s story began in 1912. The Belgrano Railway laid its tracks here. The area was first known as “Parada Km 128”. This marked its location along the railway line. The station was built on land owned by Don Carlos Santa Coloma. The station and later the town, adopted his name.

By 1930, the name Santa Coloma was officially recognized. This small railway stop started growing. It became a vital part of the region.

Imagine the hustle and bustle. Picture the trains arriving. Think of the town’s general stores. These stores built on corners sold everything. They had food, drinks, and even offered meat and bread. The buildings used brick walls made with mud. Horses stomped the mud to make it strong.

“La Adelaida 1929” still stands. It is a private home. It reminds us of the past. An old school, built around 1927, is now also a private home.

Santa Coloma’s chapel and club are important landmarks. The old railway station is now a library and cultural center. Warehouses and homes surround it. They create an architectural ensemble.

Artists found inspiration here. Luis Benedit, a famous artist and architect, designed Plaza Martin Fierro. Rodolfo Ramos, a painter, also left his mark with his artwork.

Santa Coloma values its traditions. Every year on May 1st, the town celebrates “La Fiesta del Mondongo y la Torta Frita”. This food festival brings locals and tourists together. It features traditional Creole recipes.

In 2010, Santa Coloma had 203 residents. That’s a 20% increase from 2001. The town is small but its community is strong.

Santa Coloma is more than just a place. It’s a cultural landscape. It is a heritage site. The town protects its unique character. Santa Coloma invites you to experience its history. It encourages you to enjoy its traditions.
