The Bullock Texas State History Museum isn’t just a museum. It’s a journey. A journey through 16000 years of Texas history. It’s located a few blocks north of the Texas State Capitol at 1800 North Congress Avenue. It’s the state’s official history museum. It’s dedicated to telling the Story of Texas.

Inside the Bullock Texas State History Museum you’ll find three floors packed with exhibits. You can explore everything from the earliest known objects created by humans in the Americas. There is even a projectile point discovered at the Gault archaeological site. Imagine seeing the preserved hull of La Salle’s ship La Belle a 1686 shipwreck. Thousands of artifacts were recovered from it. This impressive ship is a centerpiece of the museum.

The museum’s Becoming Texas exhibition is truly remarkable. It’s a comprehensive look at Texas history. It examines early American Indian civilizations. It also explores European colonization and global politics. It shows how these forces shaped the growth of early Texas. The third floor explores land culture and technology. There are sections dedicated to ranching oil and the space race. You can also explore Texas sports and music. Don’t miss the Austin City Limits Theater. It has musical performance clips from the popular PBS television series.

This museum is named after Bob Bullock. He was Texas’s 38th Lieutenant Governor. He championed the preservation and exhibition of Texas history. He worked tirelessly to create this amazing institution. He even attended the groundbreaking ceremony in 1999.Sadly he died the following June before it opened.
