Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of Garín is its origin story. It begins not with grand declarations but with a simple, everyday connection to the land. Garín is a town within the Escobar Partido of Buenos Aires Province. The tale of Garín’s name is quite anecdotal. The Garín family had their ranch next to the local stream. People who fished and bathed there referred to it as the Garín stream.
When officials conducted land surveys they used this common name. The family also owned the land where the railway station was built. So it was natural to name the station Garín as well. The Garín family name has roots in northern Spain specifically the provinces of Guipúzcoa Navarra and Zaragoza.
Garín is located in the north of the Buenos Aires province. Let’s delve deeper into the history of Garín. In 1892 the railway section between Victoria and Vagues was constructed. This included the Garín station. General Bartolomé Mitre personally inaugurated the line marking a significant step forward for the area.
The Santa Teresa Chapel which is dedicated to Garín’s patron saint was inaugurated on October 15 1911. This chapel has been a place of worship for over a century. The North Access covers the old Royal Road and connects with Route 9. Five bridges mark the entrance to Garín via this access. A dark chapter in Garín’s history occurred on July 30 1970. The Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias a young leftist guerrilla organization occupied the town for a few hours. They seized the local police station and the state-owned telephone company ENTel. They also robbed a bank during which a police officer was killed.
