Established in 1969 Massey High School initially operated from Henderson High School. Its current location on Don Buck Road saw its first students in 1970. Auckland’s westward expansion brought a surge of suburban students. This rapid growth required creative solutions like the temporary classrooms.
Massey High School’s architectural style reflects a common design of the 1960s. The Nelson Two-Storey plan is evident in its three H-shaped classroom blocks. Stairwells are positioned at each end. Large ground floor toilet and cloak areas complete the design. These features showcase a typical New Zealand secondary school of that era. The school is truly unique though.
