A hundred years of history whispers from these walls. Welcome to Richmond Park Academy. This very spot has witnessed generations of learning. From its beginnings in 1895 as Richmond County School for Boys it has evolved. The original school was fee-paying. Only those who could afford it could access secondary education. Boys from Surrey paid six pounds a year. Those from outside the county paid ten pounds. This shows a stark inequality in access to education. The school initially housed 50 boys aged 11 to 16.
Richmond Park Academy stands proudly today. Its rich past is interwoven with the stories of many schools. It includes Richmond County School for Boys. Then East Sheen County School for Boys. Even East Sheen County School for Girls. Eventually all these combined to become Richmond and East Sheen County School for Boys. This eventually became Shene County Grammar School for Boys. It later became Shene School. Finally in 2010 Shene School was granted academy status becoming Richmond Park Academy.
The transformation of the site is remarkable. Imagine the changes over the years. From the original Kew Road building to the modern facilities. A new building was even completed in 2015. The current headteacher Nabila Jiwa leads the school. She continues a long legacy of education. The school has a capacity of 1100 students. It currently has around 1000 students.
