The railway started as the Altona & South Western Railroad in 1976. The club aimed to build a miniature railway in Melbourne’s western suburbs. They overcame many obstacles. The club secured land in Altona North in 1982. The first official train ran in 1985. Public running began in 1986.
Over the years the railway has expanded. They’ve added tunnels and extended the track. They even have a carriage shed and workshop. They added a turntable and steaming bays.
