Dr. Wesley Pinnock heard God’s call. He founded True Light Fellowship Church in 1995. This was after leaving Deliverance Evangelistic Church. He wanted to fulfill God’s will. About 300 people from Deliverance followed him. They asked him to be their pastor.
True Light began on April 16 1995. It met in a rented facility. This facility was at 11th and Grange Avenue. It was in the Olney section of the city.
The church quickly grew to over 530 members. Many were new Christians. They had been born again since the church started. Two early morning services were held. A 7:00 AM service was joined by a 9:30 AM service. Total attendance reached about six hundred people. Weekly services included Wednesday night prayer and Bible study. Monthly all-night prayer sessions were also held.
From the start, True Light searched for its own building. Banks wouldn’t lend to ministries less than three years old. But God provided. The New Covenant Church of Philadelphia offered their former building. They had purchased a larger facility. True Light moved in March 1997. The congregation was blessed. The building was fully equipped.
Initially, ministry was limited. True Light lacked a facility. It also lacked funds for staff. Dr. Pinnock emphasized God’s leading. He believed God would provide. This belief was demonstrated. They acquired a facility.
Sharing space taught True Light valuable lessons. Humility and patience were key. The core group learned to work together. They trusted each other. They focused on Jesus, not personal space. Adversity strengthened the church. They proved faithful. They experienced God’s blessing.
True Light learned to depend on God. They started with no money, staff or programs. They had tremendous faith. Dr. Pinnock stressed freedom in worship. He valued a loving relationship with God. People’s hearts matter most. Church attendance is not a duty. It flows from personal contact with God. This love overflows to others. The goal is conformity to Jesus Christ.
Dr. Pinnock believed in holistic ministry. Discipleship is vital for maturity in Christ. True Light ministers to families. It nurtures young people spiritually. Followers rehab homes for the needy. They participate in feeding programs. They offer tutoring and counseling.
Dr. Pinnock knew churches can become closed societies. He wanted to reach the alienated. He believed Christ makes the difference. The church’s purpose is to impact the community positively.
True Light aims to win the lost to Christ. It nurtures believers. It helps them grow. It multiplies themselves. The church’s structure extends Christ’s ministry. About 45 ministries meet spiritual needs. Teaching and discipleship are key. Members use their gifts. A board of elders and laity governs the church. Dr. Pinnock envisioned church planting. He wanted to impact neighborhoods. He also desired to conduct missions worldwide.
True Light is an international congregation. Members come from Africa, the West Indies, India, Indonesia and England. Dr. Pinnock wants to plant churches as it grows.

True Light Fellowship Church aims to fulfill the Great Commission. This is instructed in Matthew 28:19-20. They teach and baptize. They observe Christ’s commands. He is with them always.
