Nishijin Elementary School was first established in 1873. It was initially known as Nishijin Elementary School. The school’s name and structure evolved over time. In 1874, Nishijin combined with two other schools. These were Hyakudo and Momiji. The merged entity became Momiji Elementary School.

However, the name changed again in 1876. Momiji Elementary School was renamed Nishijin Elementary School. A further change occurred in 1886. It was renamed Nishijin Jinjo Higher Elementary School.

In 1922, the school’s name was simplified. It became Fukuoka City Nishijin Elementary School. Another significant change happened in 1937. The higher elementary division was abolished. The school was then known as Nishijin Jinjo Elementary School.

During World War II, in 1941, there was a renaming. It was renamed Nishijin National School. After the war, in 1947, Japan’s education system was reformed. As a result, the school adopted its current name. It is now known as Fukuoka City Nishijin Elementary School.

In its later years, Nishijin Elementary School experienced further developments. Fukuoka City Takae Elementary School was separated from Nishijin in 1951. In 1955, Fukuoka City Hyakudo Elementary School was also separated. Furthermore, Fukuoka City Hyakudohama Elementary School was separated in 1993.

Today, Fukuoka City Nishijin Elementary School continues to serve its community. It is located in Nishijin 6-chome, in Fukuoka City. The school’s slogan is “Thoughts gather and overflow. Nishijin Elementary School.” It embraces tradition. It also builds a new history. The school is now in its 151st year.
