The Evergreen Park Christian Church stands tall, a testament to the community’s strong faith. It was founded in 1915, starting out modestly in the barn of a local resident. It wasn’t until 1931 that its current home on Homan Avenue was built. The cost? $40,000! For years, this church served as a hub for a growing congregation. Imagine the warmth of the stained glass windows, the whispers of prayers and hymns, the shared joy of fellowship. In the mid-2000s, the congregation sadly dwindled. The church, along with a neighboring one, decided to merge. In 2006, Evergreen Park’s leaders had a new vision for this building. It became the Evergreen Park Senior Center, a welcoming space for community activities. The stained glass windows survived, serving as a beautiful reminder of this church’s past. Today, the building is filled with the laughter of seniors, the rhythm of dance classes, the energy of theater productions — and the feeling of community still thrives, a legacy of the Evergreen Park Christian Church.
