What would you say if I told you that over 300 students once marched from another school to be here? In August 1959, this very spot where Gammelgaardsskolen stands today witnessed a unique procession. Led by their headmaster, Børge Barløse, they walked from Åby Skole to inaugurate their new educational home. Officially opened in 1962, Gammelgaardsskolen was built a few years earlier for Åby Kommune by the renowned architects Gravers and Richter. This impressive institution has grown to accommodate over 1000 students, making it one of the largest in Aarhus Kommune. With facilities like a swimming pool, two gyms, a large sports field and a spacious media center, Gammelgaardsskolen is a testament to the community’s commitment to education. The school’s journey from a march of 300 to a thriving hub of over 1000 is a story etched in the walls of Gammelgaardsskolen.
