Slipping beneath the city streets, we find ourselves before the ghost of Apeadero Boedo. This isn’t the Boedo station you see on the Line E map today. This is the echo of a temporary solution, a fleeting moment in the city’s subterranean history. Apeadero Boedo, a provisional stop, served as a placeholder for sixteen years, from 1944 to 1960, bridging the gap while the grand Boedo station we know today was under construction. Imagine stepping off the bustling Avenida San Juan, near the Club Social Mariano Boedo, and descending a long concrete staircase. The air grows cooler, thicker with the scent of damp earth and metal. You arrive on a wooden platform, enclosed within the rough, unfinished tunnel walls. Dimly lit by sparse bulbs, the Apeadero offered little comfort. Water often dripped through cracks in the ceiling, a constant reminder of the temporary nature of this space. The single track meant only one train could occupy this section of tunnel at a time. If another train was approaching from Urquiza station, a system of auxiliary rails allowed for one train to be shunted aside. This makeshift system, with its wooden platform and exposed concrete, speaks to the growing pains of a city expanding its underground network. The Apeadero Boedo, though humble and short-lived, played a crucial role in connecting the Boedo neighborhood to the rest of the city. It offered a glimpse into the future, a promise of the grand station to come. While no murals adorned its walls, unlike its successor, its story is etched in the memories of those who used it, a testament to a time of transition and growth for the Buenos Aires subway system.
