Tucked away on Jalan Kelapa Gading Selatan, Abbalove beckons. This isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to faith, growth, and a love so profound it’s woven into the very name. Abbalove Ministries began as a small gathering in the early 1980s, led by Sofjan Sutedja, with Samiton Pangellah and Eddy Leo soon joining the fold. Initially, they met in a house in the Mangga Besar area, known as Gang Anjing. Picture a small group of mostly students, fueled by a newfound spiritual fervor, praying together each morning. This burgeoning community quickly outgrew its humble beginnings, moving first to a building in the Gambir PLN complex, then finally, in a leap of faith, to the Speed Plaza complex in 1988. This move was a testament to their belief and a fulfillment of the promise, “TAKE WHAT YOU NEED WITH FAITH.” Abbalove’s journey wasn’t without its challenges. Finding a suitable space for their growing congregation proved difficult. The founders sought guidance from established churches both within Indonesia and abroad, undertaking surveys in places like Korea, China, and Thailand. This thirst for knowledge shaped their understanding of discipleship, church life, and spiritual gifts. By 1986, the leadership solidified with Sofjan Sutedja, Samiton Pangellah, and Eddy Leo at the helm, establishing a vision of global impact. The name Abbalove Ministries didn’t emerge until 1999. It signifies the Father’s love for his church and all nations, fostering unity and a spirit of love amongst different Christian denominations. The church’s impact expanded beyond Indonesia, reaching nations like India, Vietnam, and even the United States. Abbalove’s unique approach to baptism underscores their belief in full immersion. Imagine being baptized not in a traditional font, but in a bathtub, fully clothed, symbolizing a complete cleansing and renewal of faith. This practice exemplifies the church’s commitment to a deeply personal and immersive spiritual experience. Abbalove continues to thrive today, its story echoing the unwavering faith and dedication of its founders. Their journey from Gang Anjing to a global ministry is a testament to the power of love, community, and a shared vision.
