Have you ever heard of a village that was named for a feather?

You’re standing now in Thiverval-Grignon, a small commune in the Yvelines department in France. Legend has it that the village was named after a feather. After being baptized, King Clovis threw three feathers into the wind and promised to build a church where each feather landed. One feather landed in Thiverval, resulting in the construction of a church, which still stands today.

This village is also linked to the famous Marshal Ney, a French military leader during the Napoleonic Wars. He married Aglaé Auguié, a famous lady-in-waiting, here in 1801. They held their wedding ceremony in Thiverval-Grignon.

The most famous landmark in this village is the magnificent Chateau de Grignon, built in the seventeenth century. It is a beautiful estate with an arboretum. The chateau is now home to the AgroParisTech, a prestigious agricultural school. For a long time, the school was dedicated to educating future agricultural entrepreneurs, but it has since moved to a new campus in Palaiseau. Today, the chateau is up for sale and its future remains uncertain.

The village of Thiverval-Grignon has a long and fascinating history. It is a place where the past is still present, with its ancient church, its beautiful chateau, and its connection to one of France’s most important historical figures. Even today, the village is known for its agricultural connections, a testament to its historical legacy, which has attracted many tourists.
