Established in Depok on July 29, 1979, Gereja Kristen Oikoumene Indonesia, or GKO, has spread its presence across Indonesia. GKO isn’t just one building. It’s a network of churches spanning six provinces: DKI Jakarta, West Java, Banten, North Sumatra, West Kalimantan, and Papua. Here in Jakarta, you’ll find GKO congregations in Sunter and East Jakarta. GKO’s reach extends far beyond Jakarta. From Bekasi to Bandung in West Java, from Tangerang to Balaraja in Banten, and even reaching Padang Sidempuan in North Sumatra. GKO’s presence continues to grow. They have established churches and service posts in West Kalimantan, with locations in Sanggau and surrounding areas. Their influence stretches to the easternmost reaches of Indonesia, with congregations in Sorong, Jayapura, Merauke, Timika, Boven Digul, and Ransiki in Papua. Even Bali and Nusa Tenggara Timur host GKO services, showing their commitment to serving diverse communities. Led by Chairman Reverend Hermanus La Elu, Th.D. and General Secretary Reverend Yoga Wiyono, the GKO administrative center is located at Bintaro Trade Center. It’s a testament to the church’s organization and growth. GKO is also a member of the Christian Conference of Asia, demonstrating its commitment to interfaith dialogue and collaboration.
