What if I told you a house could launch a global mission? Right here, in front of Bethany Baptist Church, stands a testament to just that. Bethany Baptist Church wasn’t always this building. Its roots trace back to 1945, to a simple 30-room house in Minneapolis. This “Bethany House,” named after the biblical village where Jesus found rest, housed the founding families of Bethany International. These families sold their homes, pooled their resources, and dedicated themselves to training missionaries. Their vision extended far beyond Minneapolis. They sought to share their faith across the globe. Their initial funding sources were unconventional. From lefse and pancake griddles to camping trailers and wooden toys, they poured their creativity into supporting their mission. For years, Bethany House Publishing provided crucial income. It wasn’t until 2003 that they sold this publishing arm. Today, Bethany International, while no longer operating from this location, continues its mission through a work-study program and donations. Bethany Baptist Church, the spiritual descendant of these families, carries on their legacy of global outreach.
