From its humble beginnings as the Sahid Hotel and Tourism Academy in 1983 Universitas Sahid Jaya has blossomed into a renowned institution. The academy’s success led to its transformation into the Universitas Sahid Jaya in 1988. This momentous occasion marked the start of a new chapter in the university’s rich history. March 14th 1988 became a significant date forever etched in the university’s annals as its official birthday.
The visionary leadership of its founder the late Professor Dr H Sukamdani Sahid Gitosardjono laid the groundwork. His dedication to education shaped the university’s mission to uplift the Indonesian nation. Initially the university offered programs in engineering and industrial management. Other programs followed including environmental engineering food technology public relations journalism and economics. Universitas Sahid Jaya faced challenges. Indonesia’s shift in higher education policies meant the university had to adapt. For example the non-degree faculty was restructured. The university also underwent several accreditation processes. These processes further solidified its commitment to quality education.
The growth of Universitas Sahid Jaya didn’t stop there. The university expanded its offerings with postgraduate programs. A Master of Management program opened in 1998. A Master of Communication Science program was added in 2000. In 2007 the university launched a doctoral program in communication science. This program made it one of the few private universities in Indonesia offering such a specialized doctoral degree.
Throughout its journey Universitas Sahid Jaya has continually enhanced its facilities and governance. Grants from the Directorate General of Higher Education helped strengthen its management and teaching staff. The university also implemented a quality assurance system reflecting the National Education Standards. In 2010 Universitas Sahid Jaya obtained ISO 9001:2008 and IWA II: 2007 certifications further showcasing its dedication to excellence.
Today Universitas Sahid Jaya stands tall. It is a testament to its founder’s vision. Its commitment to quality education innovation and the betterment of Indonesian society continues to flourish.
