Braybrook College

Stepping onto the grounds of Braybrook College, one can almost feel the echoes of its rich history. Braybrook College first opened its doors in 1960. Originally known as Braybrook High School, it later transitioned to Braybrook Secondary College before finally becoming Braybrook College. The school proudly serves the western suburbs of Melbourne, primarily the Sunshine and Footscray areas. Braybrook College is a co-educational public school catering to students from year 7 to 12. It boasts a diverse student population and a vibrant multicultural atmosphere. The school colours of navy blue, maroon, and white are a familiar sight in the community. Braybrook College has a strong motto: “Pride in Achievement”. This is evident in their impressive facilities and programs. The campus boasts computer labs, a numeracy centre, and specialized centres for music, drama, and careers. Students also benefit from a well-equipped library, food and home economics facilities, woodwork and machine workshops, art and ceramics studios, and science labs. The school grounds offer a synthetic soccer pitch, landscaped gardens, and a covered BBQ area. Beyond the physical resources, Braybrook College provides an array of specialized programs. These include support for international students, students with disabilities, and those needing extra help with English as a second language. There’s also a “Student at Risk” program, literacy initiatives, a STEM program, peer support, and a program designed to nurture high achievers. In 2008, Braybrook College celebrated a significant achievement. Graduate Linh Do was awarded the prestigious VCE Achiever of the Year Award. This award recognized not only her academic excellence but also her contributions to the community. Linh’s passion for addressing climate change led her to participate in Kevin Rudd’s 2020 Youth Summit and Al Gore’s climate-change leadership training. She later founded her own organization dedicated to tackling this global challenge. Braybrook College celebrated a significant milestone in 2010, marking its 50th anniversary. The celebrations brought together current and former students, parents, staff, and community members. The event highlighted the school’s journey through the decades, showcasing displays of school life and memorabilia.
