Since its inauguration in 1957 the FEU Chapel has been the academic community’s source of spiritual strength. It operates under the patronage of Our Lady of Fatima. Imagine the countless prayers whispered within these walls. Think of the students who have sought solace and inspiration here.
Felipe M. Mendoza designed this chapel. He was a renowned Filipino architect. He embraced the International style. This style emphasizes volume and rejects excessive ornamentation. The chapel’s design reflects a sense of modernity and simplicity.
Inside the FEU Chapel you will find priceless religious works. These are crafted by some of the country’s National Artists. Look closely at the mosaic of Our Lady of Fatima. National Artist Vicente Manansala created it with glossy blue hues. This artwork graces the facade of the chapel.
Admire the painting of the Crucified Christ. National Artist Carlos “Botong” Francisco created this. It serves as a focal point at the main altar. Francisco also designed the Stations of the Cross. These are divided into different sections each telling a story.
Don’t miss the sculpture of La Pieta. National Artist Napoleon Abueva donated this artwork to the university in 1999. It is his personal interpretation of Michelangelo’s masterpiece in Rome. This La Pieta is made from fiberglass.
The FEU Chapel can accommodate 300 to 350 people. The altar area is elevated. People standing outside can see the mass from Tamaraw Plaza. An additional 300 to 500 people can view celebrations from outside.
Many religious icons inside the FEU Chapel are carved by Maximo Vicente. He was a well-known religious sculptor from Quiapo. He created the life-sized statues of Sacred Heart of Jesus Our Lady of Fatima and Joseph with Jesus.
