Csepel-Erdősor is a district in Budapest’s 21st district. It sits on Csepel Island. Before 1950 it was part of Csepel town. It wasn’t always called Csepel-Erdősor though. Until December 2012 it was known simply as Erdősor.
The first homes were built between 1974 and 1977. They were part of the Szent László housing estate. Later between 1977 and 1983 and again between 1988 and 1989 more homes sprang up. These were built for workers at the Csepel Iron and Metal Works. These four-story buildings were unique. Their streets weren’t named after famous people or historical events. Instead they bore the names of animals. Think Puli Cirmos Csikó and Nyuszi. Charming isn’t it?
