In 1900, a humble wooden structure graced Tembilahan. This was the first Masjid Agung Al-Huda. Its roof, crafted from ulin wood shingles, sheltered the sole mosque in town. Masjid Agung Al-Huda became the heart of the Muslim community in Tembilahan and its surrounding areas. The call to prayer echoed from its minarets, marking the passage of time. Within its walls, the community celebrated Islamic holidays and important events. The mosque was funded by the community’s generous donations. As Tembilahan grew, Masjid Agung Al-Huda evolved alongside it, undergoing three major renovations. The first renovation in 1935 expanded the mosque’s capacity. It accommodated the growing population while retaining the original wooden structure. The second renovation in 1968 brought significant changes. The wooden foundations were replaced with concrete. The walls transitioned from wood to plastered cement. The roof was replaced with corrugated iron. A second story was added, doubling the mosque’s capacity. This renovation coincided with Tembilahan becoming the capital of Indragiri Hilir Regency. The third renovation in 1994 completely transformed Masjid Agung Al-Huda. The mosque was further expanded. The two-story structure was retained, and four minarets were added. The mosque adopted a permanent construction, adorned with ceramic floors and walls. The front right section was designated for administrative offices. The front left housed meeting rooms, a mini-library, and the secretariat. On January 12, 1999, coinciding with Ramadan 24, 1419H, the renovated Masjid Agung Al-Huda was inaugurated by the Regent of Indragiri Hilir, Drs. H. Azwin Yacub. From its humble beginnings, Masjid Agung Al-Huda has stood as a testament to the community’s faith and resilience.
