Up until the mid-1950s, this land buzzed with activity. Companies like Holes Bros., Delano Granite, Melrose Granite Co., Empire Quarry Co., and C. L. Atwood extracted the distinctive St. Cloud Red Granite. Imagine the clang of machinery, the shouts of workers, and the massive blocks of granite being hoisted onto carts. In 1992, a new chapter began for Minnesota Valley State Park – Quarry. Cold Spring Granite Company sold the land to Stearns County. Others, like Quarry #2 (also known as Melrose Deep 7), beckon thrill-seekers with their dramatic cliffs and depths reaching 116 feet. Hiking trails wind through the park.
