In 1886, Coquelin toured Europe and the United States. He rejoined the Comédie-Française in 1890. Two years later he toured European capitals. He toured with his own company. In 1900, he toured America with Sarah Bernhardt.

Coquelin was an author too. He wrote three treatises on acting. His son Jean followed in his footsteps. He also became an actor. His brother Ernest was also a comedian.

Aimé Guerlain created a cologne in Coquelin’s honor. It was called Eau de Cologne du Coq. A bronze bust of Coquelin stands in the Comédie-Française. It was sculpted by Antoine Bourdelle in 1893.
