Shady Hollow is a community in southwest Austin that feels like a little world of its own. Established in the 1970s, Shady Hollow was originally a 600-acre tract of land. It quickly became popular, and by 1978 the residents formed a homeowners’ association to address concerns of overdevelopment. They were successful, as Shady Hollow now boasts four parks, playscapes, a large community center, a swimming pool, and tennis courts. Shady Hollow is also home to the Bailey Middle School, which opened its doors in 1993. With an emphasis on family and community, Shady Hollow attracts residents who appreciate its sense of neighborliness and access to the outdoors. But Shady Hollow has a secret – it is not truly just one neighborhood. Within its boundaries lie several distinct developments with their own homeowners’ associations: Barker Ranch at Shady Hollow, Estates of Shady Hollow, Enclave at Shady Hollow, The Villages of Shady Hollow, and the original Shady Hollow subdivision. Each is a little different, whether it be the age of the homes or the size of the lots. But residents know that they are all part of the same close-knit community – Shady Hollow.
