A white bicycle, a silent sentinel. This is the Mike Ghost bike, a poignant reminder of a life lost too soon. The Mike Ghost bike stands as a memorial to Michael Hübner. He was tragically killed on December 7, 2013, at the age of 47. A car struck him while he was cycling, right here where the ghost bike now stands. This location, on Landgrabenweg near the roundabout, became the site of Bonn’s first Ghost bike. Michael’s family, with permission from the city, placed the white bike here on September 26, 2014. They wanted to create a lasting tribute. A place for remembrance and reflection. The ghost bike is adorned with flowers and candles, signs of love and loss. A sign on the bike reads “Michael, 7. Dezember 2013, 47 Jahre”. The Mike Ghost bike is more than just a painted bicycle. It’s a symbol of the vulnerability of cyclists. A call for greater road safety and a testament to the enduring power of grief and remembrance. It serves as a stark reminder to all who pass by to share the road and protect the lives of those on two wheels.
