Remember the roar of the crowd. The echo of music lingers here at Festwiese Leipzig. It’s more than just an open space. It’s a stage for memories.

Festwiese Leipzig is a large meadow in Leipzig. It sits on the grounds of the Sportforum. This area is under historical preservation. The Festwiese Leipzig is west of the city center. It lies in the district of Zentrum-Nordwest.

Imagine this field transformed. Seventy-thousand people gather here. They come for open-air events. International stars perform here. Michael Jackson once graced this stage. Depeche Mode, U2 and the Rolling Stones have performed here too. Linkin Park and Die Toten Hosen have also played here.

But the Festwiese Leipzig has a past that goes way back. In 1902, this land was Ranstädter Viehweide. It was a pasture crossed by a path to Leutzsch. By the mid-1930s, the Festwiese Leipzig was created. Part of the Leutzscher Weg was built over.

In 1938, it became Adolf-Hitler-Feld. This was a site for rallies. The north part was built over in the 1950s. This made it almost square. In 1956, the Glockenturm was built. The tower is a striking landmark. It stands 43 meters high. It is named after Werner Seelenbinder.

Today, the Festwiese Leipzig is bordered by an embankment. It has access points on the east and west sides. The Red Bull Arena stands to the north. The Jahnallee is to the south.

Besides concerts, the Festwiese Leipzig hosts other events. It was a site for the World Pyro Awards in 2007. Fireworks lit up the Leipzig sky. The area is about 40,000 square meters.

Outside of events, Festwiese Leipzig is open to visitors. You can wander the grounds freely. You can walk the accessible dam. Broad staircases punctuate it symmetrically. Ramps make it accessible from the south.

Getting here is easy. Public transport lines stop nearby. These include lines 3, 7, 8, 15, 53 and 55E. Limited parking is available on Am Sportforum street.

The Festwiese Leipzig is a dynamic space. It blends history with modern entertainment. It’s where music and memories converge. It’s a place where 70,000 people can come together. The Festwiese Leipzig stands as a testament to Leipzig’s vibrant culture.
