Swakeleys School for Girls is more than just a school. It is a place where girls enjoy achieve aspire and succeed. This motto encapsulates the school’s commitment to holistic development.
Let’s take a step back in time. Swakeleys School used to share a site with Abbotsfield School for Boys. In 2017 Abbotsfield was rebuilt and became Oak Wood School a coeducational institution. Following Abbotsfield School’s closure Swakeleys School became the only single-sex school in the London Borough of Hillingdon.
On April 1 2011 Swakeleys School embraced academy status. Before this conversion Hillingdon London Borough Council administered the school. Today the school still works with the council for admissions.
Swakeleys School provides a broad curriculum. Pupils can study GCSEs and BTECs. Sixth form students have options from a range of A Levels and further BTECs. The school also specializes in humanities. It has extra resources to support this specialism.
In 2019 Swakeleys School achieved a Progress 8 score of +0.84. This led to several awards. These included three SSAT Awards for exceptional attainment progress and sixth form results. The school also received a Mayor’s Schools for Success award. Moreover it won an Educational Training Award for ‘Best Mainstream Secondary Girls School – London’.
The school continues to celebrate success. In 2024 80% of students achieved a grade 4 in both English and maths. 61% achieved a grade 5 in both subjects. The provisional Progress 8 score was +0.62. Sixth Form results were also impressive. A Level students achieved a 99% pass rate and 56% got A*-B grades.
The school also has a fundraising thermometer. For every pupil with 100% attendance each week the school donates to charity. The aim is to reach £300 by the end of each term.
Swakeleys School for Girls has a diverse student body. As of 2023 the school has 1375 pupils. A significant proportion 89.4% are from ethnic minority backgrounds.
Notable staff members have contributed to the school’s success. Emma Croker an international rugby union player once led the P.E. Department.
Currently Ms Kelda Stevenson leads Swakeleys School as Headteacher since September 2022. She continues to uphold the school’s values.
