You are standing on a piece of land that has changed hands several times but has always held a special place in the hearts of the Rogers Park community. This isn’t your typical Chicago beach. The Park District acquired the land in 1959 from the City of Chicago. The area was initially known as Albion Beach because it was located on Albion Street. In 1960, the city council renamed the park in honor of 49th Ward Alderman David L. Hartigan. Alderman Hartigan had a passion for creating more green spaces in the city. The park was officially renamed Hartigan Beach and Park in 1965. Hartigan Beach Park is a quiet place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It is a great place to take a walk, have a picnic, or just relax and enjoy the view. Even though the park doesn’t have restrooms or changing rooms, it still offers a sweeping green lawn with trees for shade. It is perfect for a picnic on a sunny day. Another reason for the name change was that Hartigan Beach Park is a beautiful spot to relax, with some of the best city views in Chicago. The pier provides even better views of the cityscape and Lake Michigan, leaving you to enjoy this special place.
