What if I told you we’re about to step onto the highest outdoor glass skywalk in all of Malaysia? The Sky Walk here at The TOP Penang is not for the faint of heart. It’s a horseshoe-shaped cantilever bridge made entirely of glass, perched a dizzying 816 feet above George Town. The TOP Penang, located atop the Komtar Tower, the tallest skyscraper in George Town, opened this marvel in 2016. It was part of a massive renovation project to bring new life into this iconic landmark. The Sky Walk, officially known as the Rainbow Skywalk, was the crown jewel of this revitalization. Imagine stepping onto this glass platform, the city sprawling beneath your feet. You can see everything from the historic streets of George Town to the distant suburbs of Tanjung Tokong and Air Itam. Even Penang Hill seems close enough to touch. The Sky Walk itself is only 52 feet long, but every step is a thrill. The glass is specially engineered, the same type used in the Grand Canyon Skywalk. It’s heat-treated, tamper-proof, and laminated for strength. It was rigorously tested by Universiti Sains Malaysia to ensure it could hold the weight of 16 adults. So, while it might feel like walking on air, rest assured, you’re on solid, albeit transparent, ground. Now, as you take in this breathtaking panorama, remember the visionaries who transformed The TOP Penang. Only World Group invested millions to create this experience. They added a banquet hall, a sky lounge on the 65th floor, and a restaurant at the very top. They even installed high-speed bubble lifts along the tower’s facade. Originally designed with glass walls for a panoramic view during the ascent, these lifts are now enclosed for safety. So, take a deep breath, savor the view, and appreciate this unique experience high above Penang.
