Standing before the Institut de la Longévité, consider this question: What if science could unlock the secrets to a longer, healthier life? The Institut de la Longévité, des Vieillesses et du Vieillissement is dedicated to exploring exactly that.

The Institut de la Longévité addresses the major challenges of our society. These challenges relate to longevity, aging and old age. They affect social issues, healthcare and quality of life. Public policy is also affected. The Institut uses a multi-faceted approach. It incorporates the human and social sciences. This is crucial to understanding the complexities of the issues.

Back in 2002 the French Minister of Research created a group. Roger-Gérard Schwartzenberg acted on the advice of Étienne-Émile Baulieu and Françoise Forette. This group later became the Institut de la Longévité et du Vieillissement.

Its aim was to bring together skills and resources. They wanted to advance research into aging. Coordinating this research and sharing knowledge were also key goals. The Institut is headed by Étienne-Émile Baulieu. It includes organizations such as the CNRS, INSERM and INED.

In 2004 the Ministry of Health joined the group. The Ministry for Older People also joined. It then became the Institut de la Longévité et du Vieillissement.

Fast forward to early 2018. The Institut de la Longévité, des Vieillesses et du Vieillissement was formed. It replaced the research group Longévités et Vieillissements. Emmanuelle Cambois of Ined directs the ILVV.

The Institut de la Longévité aims to boost the visibility of French research. This applies both nationally and internationally. It supports the organization of approaches and methods. These revolve around key themes. This helps to evolve knowledge collectively. The knowledge then informs public debates.

To achieve this, the ILVV has four missions. Firstly, it identifies French research and teams. It also proposes a framework via a database. Secondly, it publicizes developments in the field. It does this through a web portal and a newsletter. Thirdly, it supports thematic events. It provides training for young researchers. It also promotes international collaboration. Fourthly, it shares research with public bodies. It also engages social protection organizations. This connects research with policy agendas.

All these actions involve the community. They promote an interdisciplinary approach. They encourage links with other organizations. They support international research. They also support young researchers.

As you stand here, remember that the Institut de la Longévité is more than just a building. It is a hub of research. It is a place where experts work to improve the quality of life for all. It strives to help people live longer and healthier lives.
