“What makes Singapore Bible Baptist Church what it is today is solely by God’s grace and mercy.” These words encapsulate the heart of this church. Singapore Bible Baptist Church’s story began with a missionary from High Street Baptist Church. He came from Springfield Missouri in the US in January 1968. His mission was to establish a new field of operation. This was for the Baptist Bible Fellowship International.
The Singapore Bible Baptist Church officially started in 1970. It began with just ten members. Early services and meetings were held in a rented building on Dunearn Road. Many of the initial members were young people. Some were even expatriates. A school bus would bring enthusiastic children to church. They came to listen to the Word of God. Many of them received Jesus as their Savior. Their lives were transformed. They began to live for Him.
The church moved from place to place in its early years. Finally, in 1986, Singapore Bible Baptist Church bought a property. It was located at 371 Pasir Panjang Road. This purchase required a great leap of faith. Resources were limited at the time. But God blessed their efforts. In 1998, the church took another step of faith. They rebuilt the property. This was to accommodate the growing congregation. Again, God provided.
As Singapore Bible Baptist Church grew, many members felt called to full-time service. They served Christ both locally and abroad. Despite difficulties, the Lord used SBBC to raise missionaries and pastors. Some members serve as missionaries and church planters. They work in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan and New Zealand. Some local Baptist pastors came to know the Lord through SBBC’s ministry.
Beyond mission work, ordinary members have impacted lives. They brought loved ones and friends to know God. Personal evangelism remains important. Members share testimonies and invite others. This draws people to Singapore Bible Baptist Church. Sound teaching and preaching of the Bible remain a hallmark. The church bought the building at 371 Pasir Panjang Road in 1986. They rebuilt it in 1998. The history of Singapore Bible Baptist Church is a testament to God’s love. It shows what happens when people put their faith in Him. They worship Him in truth and spirit.
