A city built on a legacy. That’s Iskandar Puteri. This sprawling metropolis wasn’t always the modern marvel it is today. Iskandar Puteri boasts a rich history stretching back centuries. Long before gleaming skyscrapers and bustling malls. The area was home to humble fishing villages. Malays and Orang Laut tribes lived here. They thrived along the narrowest part of the Tebrau Strait. This area was known then as Sempit Puteri. Narrow Princess.

In 1855 Temenggong Daeng Ibrahim shifted the Johor capital. He moved it from Singapore to Tanjung Puteri. He renamed it Iskandar Puteri. This marked a significant turning point. A new chapter began for this strategically important location. His son Sultan Abu Bakar later renamed it Johor Bahru. This was to differentiate his reign from that of previous Johor Sultanates.

Fast forward to the 1990s. A visionary plan emerged. A second link between Malaysia and Singapore was needed. The Johor Causeway was overflowing with traffic. Halim Saad a young entrepreneur stepped up. He secured funding for a new township. This township would become Nusajaya. A modern city. Iskandar Malaysia a larger regional development plan spurred its growth.

Numerous projects transformed Nusajaya. Legoland Malaysia Resort a major tourist attraction opened. Puteri Harbour another iconic development emerged. It’s a marina filled with yachts and luxury. Kota Iskandar the administrative centre of Johor State also took shape. It’s a stunning example of Moorish Andalusian architecture. A blend of influences.

In 2016 Sultan Ibrahim renamed Nusajaya. He returned it to its historical name. Iskandar Puteri. The name represents its legacy. It’s a city built on history. It’s also a symbol of modern growth and prosperity. Iskandar Puteri a dynamic city. It’s a fascinating blend of old and new. It is a testament to the area’s enduring spirit.
