Born from the ashes of 1945 Hiroshima City Dai Daiwa Elementary School stands as a testament to resilience. It was established in April 1915 as Daiwa Public Elementary School. Over 6000 children attended its inaugural year. It changed names several times. First to Hiroshima City Daiwa Public Elementary School in 1929. Then to Hiroshima City Daiwa National Elementary School in 1941. The school suffered immensely from the atomic bombing of August 6 1945. The school building was completely destroyed. Miraculously no students died. However many suffered injuries. A temporary relief center was opened immediately. This ensured the immediate care of the injured. The school was then renamed Hiroshima City Daiwa Elementary School in 1947. Later in 1976 it celebrated its 50th anniversary. Throughout its history Hiroshima City Daiwa Elementary School has been a cornerstone of the community. It serves as a reminder of the past’s pain. It is also a symbol of hope for the future. The school’s story is an important part of Hiroshima’s history. It’s a story of loss and rebuilding. It’s a story of education and perseverance.
