Aspire and Achieve That’s the motto of Evergreen Secondary School. Standing before this impressive building you feel its history. Evergreen Secondary School opened in 2000. Its first students and teachers started their journey at Woodgrove Secondary School. Eventually Evergreen Secondary School moved to its current location at 11 Woodlands Street 83.

Evergreen Secondary School isn’t just a school. It’s a place where students learn more than academics. The school actively teaches about the founding fathers of modern Singapore. This is part of their National Education program. In fact Evergreen Secondary School became a North Zone Centre of Excellence in National Education. They even received the prestigious Lee Kuan Yew NE Award twice. That shows their dedication to nurturing well-rounded citizens.

Evergreen Secondary School is also innovative. It embraces modern teaching methods. They introduced programs like the Applied Learning Programme in effective communication. This helps prepare students for the future. They also have a Learning for Life Programme in sports education. This promotes healthy lifestyles. In 2018 Evergreen Secondary School became one of only four schools in Singapore to offer an Enhanced Applied Learning Programme. This program focuses on English Chinese and Malay language skills.

The school’s dedication shows in many ways. Their strict disciplinary measures ensure a focused learning environment. Being late for instance means detention. But the school also offers a wide range of activities. Students can join clubs like the Netball team or the Rugby team. Others might prefer the Digital Media Club or the Singapore Youth Flying Club. The choices are diverse. Evergreen Secondary School also has various ensembles such as the Chinese Orchestra and the Gamelan Ensemble.

Evergreen Secondary School has had several principals. Mrs Mary Koh led the school from 2000 to 2006. Mr Chan Yew Wooi took over in 2007. Mrs Carol Lim served from 2012 to 2017. Mr Vincent Toh led the school from 2018 to 2023. Currently Ms Bian Yu Wei is the principal. Each has contributed to the school’s success.

Evergreen Secondary School is more than bricks and mortar. It’s a community. A place where students grow academically and personally. They aspire to achieve and Evergreen Secondary School helps them reach those goals. Their 20th anniversary in 2020 showed their resilience even during challenging times. Today Evergreen Secondary School continues to grow and thrive. It remains a valued part of the Woodlands community.
