How many tears have fallen upon these granite slabs? Right here, in the heart of Dallas’s Fair Park, stands the Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It’s a solemn place, a place where the echoes of a turbulent past meet the tranquility of the present. The memorial was dedicated in 1989 by former President George H. Bush, a poignant reminder of the tumultuous Vietnam War era. Five tablets of Texas granite, quarried from our very own state, bear the names of 3,415 Texans who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. They are etched in stone, forever young, their lives tragically cut short in a distant land. As you walk along the wall, you might notice visitors placing American flag stickers next to the names. It’s a simple gesture, but it speaks volumes about the enduring impact of this war on families and loved ones. The memorial isn’t just about remembering the fallen; it’s also about honoring those who bravely served and returned, forever marked by their experiences.
