“What if a single object could represent the world’s yearning for peace?” Here at Gödöllő in Hungary, stands the World Peace Gong. It is more than just a musical instrument. The World Peace Gong is a symbol. It embodies humanity’s collective dream of tranquility.

Hungary was chosen as the fifth country and first in Europe, to host a World Peace Gong. The selection highlights Hungary’s dedication to global harmony. The World Peace Gong here promotes mutual respect. It fosters understanding among people in Hungary, Europe, and across the world.

The Parliament of Hungary’s Chairperson Dr Katalin Szili inaugurated the World Peace Gong. Indonesia’s Ambassador Mangasi Sihombing also attended. The inauguration took place on May 2, 2008, in Godollo. Godollo lies approximately 30 km east of Budapest.

Ambassador Sihombing stated that safeguarding peace is a duty for Indonesia. It is enshrined in the 1945 Constitution. This principle guides Indonesia’s foreign policy. Indonesia promotes peaceful conflict resolution. It avoids violence and war. Indonesia encourages global cooperation. The aim is a safer and more prosperous world. They want to eliminate weapons of mass destruction including nuclear arms.

Former President Ferenc Madl echoed this sentiment. He emphasized global collaboration. He felt it was important to create a secure and thriving world. Madl and the Hungarian people welcomed the World Peace Gong. They believed it would deepen respect and understanding. This would extend to all people.

The inauguration featured Ambassador Sihombing striking the World Peace Gong. Dr. Katalin Szili, Ferenc Madl, and Djuyoto Suntani, President of the World Peace Committee were present. Gyorgy Gemesyi, the Mayor of Godollo also attended. Diplomats, Hungarian officials, and local residents were present.

The World Peace Gong Park can be found on the island of Bali, Indonesia. It was the venue for the Miss World Contestants commitment to World Peace, in September 2013.

The World Peace Gong has been struck at significant events. These include the Second Global Summit on Peace Through Tourism in Geneva in 2003. The United Nations Secretary General was present. It was also struck at the PATA Conference in Bali in April 2003. Additionally, the Borobudur International Festival in Central Java in June 2003 saw the Gong being struck.
