Isn’t it remarkable how a simple announcement can change the course of history? This is the story of Masjid Al-Muqarrabin. It began as a humble prayer room. Let’s explore its origins.
In the late 20th century, the southern part of Cipedak Srengseng Sawah faced religious challenges. Superstitions and traditions were common. The only place of worship was the At Taubah prayer room. It was built by the community. Mr. Imi then donated his land to expand it.
The 1980s saw the rise of ISTN University. The population grew and knowledge spread. Students organized religious activities for local children. This broadened the community’s perspective. A larger and better managed place of worship was needed.
In 1991, a Friday prayer announcement sparked an idea. Kuwait offered aid to build a 6×6 meter prayer room. The condition was a land endowment. Three young men Yuli Agus, Mochamad Djuhri, and Zayadi wanted this for their community.
They sought land donors. Arih and Samin Muar offered their land. Samin Muar’s land was chosen for its strategic location. They consulted with the KUA Pasar Minggu about the donation process.
The land donation was formalized on August 13, 1992. However, the Kuwait aid was canceled due to the Gulf War.
Undaunted, Muhbib from Depok designed the prayer room for free. The design resembled the At Taubah prayer room. The community approved it.
Naming the prayer room was the next step. Three names were suggested to Muhbib. The name Al Muqarrabiin was chosen. KH. Miqdar M. Umar explained that Al Muqarrabiin means those who draw near to God.
Construction began in August 1991. The community worked together. Donations of money and materials poured in.
In March 1992, the prayer room was inaugurated. It served as a center for worship, education, and community events.
In 1995, Al-Muqarrabiin received certificate No. 439. Over time, the community recognized the need for a full-fledged mosque.
H. Afief Ubaidillah played a key role in this transition. He lobbied for Friday prayers at Al Muqarrabiin. On January 15, 1999, the first Friday prayer was held.
The growing congregation prompted expansion plans. Land around the mosque was purchased. The mosque expanded to 1,219 meters.
The Yayasan Al Muqarrabiin Khairu Ummah Cipedak foundation was established. This further supported the mosque’s activities.
Since its founding, Masjid Al Muqarrabiin has seen many improvements. It stands as a testament to community spirit. It shows dedication to faith and progress. In August 2020, the old mosque was demolished. A new three-story mosque is planned. This new building will cost Rp 14,400,000,000.
Masjid Al-Muqarrabin is more than just a building. It is a symbol of unity. It embodies faith and community.
