Did you know that Altayçeşme Mahallesi is a neighborhood within the Maltepe district of Istanbul? Maltepe is a district on the northern shore of the Marmara Sea. It is adjacent to Kadıköy to the west and Kartal to the east.

Let’s explore Altayçeşme Mahallesi. It is one of the 18 neighborhoods that make up the Maltepe district. In 2022, Altayçeşme Mahallesi had an estimated population of 32664. This is out of Maltepe’s total population of 528544. Maltepe is a large district.

The Maltepe district has seen rapid population growth since the 1970s. This followed the construction of the Bosphorus Bridge. The bridge made commuting to the city easier. Today transportation in Maltepe relies on rail and road. The D-100 highway divides Maltepe into three parts. This road connects Maltepe to Anatolia. Side roads connect to neighboring districts. Another key route is Bağdat Avenue. It stretches from Kızıltoprak in Kadıköy to Cevizli in Maltepe.

Maltepe Square serves as a central meeting point. It sits where the pedestrianized Bağdat Avenue and Atatürk Avenue merge. The square hosts a police station and an art gallery. You will also find a private hospital and the Republic Mosque there. The square was inaugurated in 2024.

The Republic Mosque opened in November 2001. It was inspired by the Blue Mosque. Inside, there is a tall dome and a large gallery. A balcony provides a space for women to pray. The gallery features tiled mosaics and carved wood frames.

Maltepe is located in the southwestern part of the Kocaeli Peninsula. It has about 7 km of coastline on the Marmara Sea. The district’s highest point reaches 440m.

Maltepe was separated from Kartal district in 1992. Since then, it has developed into a busy district. Altayçeşme Mahallesi, as part of Maltepe, shares in this vibrant setting.
