“Did you hear about those poor folks at the Guest Inn back in ’08? 8,242! Can you believe it?” whispers our local guide, shaking his head. “That’s how many police and fire calls those seven hotels got in just seven years. The Guest Inn? Oh, they were leading the pack with a whopping 2,646 calls!”. The Guest Inn Motel, a modest establishment nestled along the bustling South Interstate 35E, has always been a bit of a local legend. Now, I’m not saying it was all bad news. For folks on a tight budget, it was the place to be. But those low prices seemed to attract a certain crowd. The city even passed a special ordinance because of all the commotion. Seems those hotels weren’t just known for their hospitality. Let’s just say the words “dilapidation, fire hazards, unsanitary conditions…” were thrown around a lot. There were even whispers of things like illegal drug use and – ahem – other activities. But hey, that’s just what I heard.
