“Chapelle de la confession d’Augsbourg” is another name for this church. Today we explore the Église Luthérienne. This Lutheran church stands at 12 rue Fénelon. It is located in Lyon.

The Église Luthérienne is part of the Église Protestante Unie de France. This translates to the United Protestant Church of France. It reflects a communion between Lutheran and Reformed traditions.

Did you know that this church has a fascinating history? The Église Luthérienne was inaugurated in 1893. Clermont was the architect behind this beautiful building. Its history goes back even further. In 2007, the Reformed Church of France and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of France started the process of unification. This union became official in 2013.

Imagine the music that fills this space. The organ at Église Luthérienne has its own story. It was originally located at the temple on rue Lanterne. Later it was moved to this location.

Let’s talk about the people who led this congregation. Georges Mayer served as pastor from 1858 to 1884. Henri Bach followed from 1888 to 1901. Jacques Bach then took over from 1901 to 1919. Maurice Savoye led from 1920 to 1937. André Desbaumes served during two periods. These were 1938-1939 and 1940-1949. Edgars Lappuke had a brief tenure from 1949 to 1950. Henry Bruston served from 1950 to 1969. Jean Kaltenmark was pastor from 1969 to 1983. Jean-Claude Deroche followed from 1984 to 1985. Bruneau Joussellin led from 1985 to 1993. Jean-Frédéric Patrzynski served from 1993 to 2009. Kristina Lethin had a short term from 2009 to 2010. Wulf Oppermann served from 2010 to 2013.

Every Sunday at 10:30 AM the Église Luthérienne holds its service. The church provides access information for those using TCL public transport. It also provides access information for Vélo’v bike rentals.

Take a moment to appreciate the tympanum. It is a beautiful architectural detail. Consider the plans that started the construction of this church. Église Luthérienne has witnessed countless celebrations. This includes a wedding officiated by Pastor Wulf Oppermann. Imagine attending a service here.
